Story for the week. All 3 of us are going hard for this exhibition so expect some good stuff.

People keep asking, “Hey man what’s “3 The Hard Way” mean?”
Well more or less its a cliche used to describe a group of 3. kind of like..

or maybe even these 3 familiar delinquents

But originally this term started from an early 70’s  blaxploitation flim about 3 pimps……..how suiting

Whats the theme of the gallery?
“3 The Hard Way is an exhibition of 3 emerging artists from Sydney. A display of different styles and techniques brought together with several things in common.”

In my mind, although all 3 of us share different styles and strengths, what connects us is our area. Because of this the 3 of us share similar upbringings and common interests. This will hopefully be an exhibition to show the talent of our area (where there’s not many) and also to expose our people to this kind of world.
As Tim said, its “For the homies”. With Jay on the decks aswell, I couldnt ask for a better exhibition.

BAM! be there!
this is the facespace link if your havent clicked it already

speaking of groups of 3:

Be There!

One Track Mind

If ive seen you in the last 2 weeks you probably know by now, but for others Tim, Andrew & I are having our first art exhibition opening on Thursday September 15. So make sure you clear that date and try to be there! More details/location to come as we finalize everything, but its in just under two weeks. Shout out to Sabrina for hooking us up!

With a week break starting next week, i’ve begun prepping some works/merch for it. With a beautiful sunny Friday, it was good weather to set up shop and paint.

My padawan Ant came over and worked on his infinite triangle

Spring daze

going hard in the paint

Illuminati Style, he deed it. Andrew dying in the background, did I mention he’s also exhibiting too? should be very interesting.

I dont want to give away too much yet in terms of progress on my works, but heres a small taste.

props to Flo for hooking up the undercoat and putting in that slave work. Nice drawing of Charles, not too sure who that hairy asian gameshow host on the far left is though.

So with these new works I want want to try some styles I havent done before hopefully suprising people who are familiar with my stuff. But anyways, If all goes to plan i’ll be selling a zine and some big posters for cheap $$$. All content in that should be new and not anywhere on the interwebz yet (mostly because Ive barely started It).

So full colour and large scale. Im a short dude, but this thing still clowns me height wise.

and heres a taste of some new zine material… girls+helmets+space

Indulge Me

So Wednesday was Babekuhl Hamburg day and everything went off without a hitch. I think last time I spoke about this I had only done like 2 handdrawn boxes. Well 8 hours, 40+ boxes later and this is the result..

Thank god for non-toxic Poscas and Sharpies, thankfully no-one was poisoned haha. Every Box is kind of different, they all had the same basic layout but I flipped styles every box or two just to keep my mind fresh. More than anything this type of slave work is less of a physical excerice, but far more mental. After like the first 4 boxes your mind lapses and goes into autopilot, good times!
Overall a very interesting experience, I would’ve never thought that I could possibly be tagging in a professional job. So yeah to all the highschool doodlers, keep up the good work! Its like a form of studying for dropkicks like me haha

and this was the final presentation of the meal….

The Hamburg!
Packaged with it was a free electric funk mix Billy put together and a worksheet with games and facts on it. There were also 5 “golden tickets” attached  to random boxes with prizes to be given out Willy Wonka style. Luckily our boy Jay got one and recieved a Babekuhl studio book.
The burger itself had a whooping 300 gram paddy made with 50/50 Bill and Toni’s beef mixed with Bratwurst mince and German Beer. The potato rosti paddy and homemade sauerkraut was also amazing.
We threw back a few beers with the itis soon kicking in, ready for sleep.

Good night and cheers to all that came. Im pretty sure Bill & Toni’s has this Burger special every Wednesday night, so be sure to drop in and check out the crazy one-offs they come up with.

1 time for the city, 2 times for you

Thursday was the last and closing week of the Redbull Ar(t)gyle comp with the final draw-off round and the winner announced. Im happy to say that Ollie West took it with some sick ink work and concept. check it.

Dude absolutely killed it also taking a subtle jab at the corporate peeps surrounding the area, nicely done!
All the artists showed up for the final week and chilled out, which eventually turned into a big party. Great experience meeting these talented guys, hopefully more work/projects with these guys in the future.
It was also cool to see all the pieces standing next to eachother from each artist featuring a different style or skill background (graff, illustration, ink etc.)
Imagine Oceans Eleven with the team’s individual skillsets except everyone has a beard or some kind of facial growth. Cam would be Danny Ocean, i’d be Burney Mac/Don Cheadle or some other redundant character. Anyways here are some more snaps from the night taken by Ashley, credits to Redbull, Argyle etc.

So I think the piece will be on display as part of Redbull’s gallery for a month or two, then it is ours to sell/keep. Anyone keen? haha

Kendrick’s section 80 is actually pretty dope. I slept on it hard and didnt really like him when his mixtapes were out but yeah, this album takes it. Defs cop!

Hamburg

Been working with the Babekuhl boys prepping visuals for the upcoming Burger feast at Bill & Toni’s Surry Hills. Working hard on those hand drawn burger boxes, will take some snaps when there all done tomorrow. For the mean time heres a sweet poster Pat did for this weeks festivities…
A cool dissection of whats in this beast. Everything German except for the Swiss cheese, but hey who can complain, this will sure to be a greasy affair. The burger will also come with a mixtape and some other cool things we designed so make sure you’re there and early, these burgers will move quick.

Havnet got much work to show this post so heres a bonus wallpaper I found from the vault

In unrelated news, I saw Big Boi again and man did he kill it.
He even literally did ALL of the ‘kast classics including this gem

Lastly big shout out to artist Fee Harding, she reblogged my art finding out about me from the Rah book.

Just Another Bird

Got a mini notebook to throw down notes for my major project after like 4 years of writing on loose leaf A4s. So I thought i might as well capitalize on this and start sketching random ideas that come to mind. Nothing too complex just to quickly jot down ideas.
Chilled out bo-ho girl so of course she would be singing herself some Joni Mitchell

This chick was mean mugging everyone in her path. Plus she wore a bandana and most likely had a knife somewhere. Sure to say, she was most definitely a bawse
Some progress on my design major. Samples and concept for a textile repeat, the devils in the detail.

Im so Uptown

Last Thursday was the RAH opening/exhibition featuring the book and works of the collective and some of the featured artists. Overall a really swell night with our crew repping the only way we know how (refer to photos). Shout outs to the whole of the RAH collective and Qwux for being an overall top dude and doing a great job. Also shouts to the DJ for playing “Pony” by request following with “Bad Boys 4 life”. I never thought Id hear that song out loud past 2002 let alone in an art gallery, I guess dreams do come true….
P.diddy and the bad boy familyProps to Ant for rocking the tiger camo by request. Short to say the beast was unleashed,
“Noa”, My expensive girl

Theres a gang of pictures as thankfully everyone has a DSLr, so as opposed to reposting I will link them all here. For coverage goto the Usual Suspects:
Mr Ree
Mr 400
Mr Rah Collective

As always, Big thanks to everyone for coming/supporting!

Smiths Chups

Babekuhl Mondaze

Started the day with a greasy suprise. After the boys worked on the redesign of Smith’s Corporate site  we were welcomed with racks on racks of various chips as a gift of fiendish proportions. Straight up there were like 200 packs, which shortly led to the itis. Well I did at least. Anyways here are some crackberry snaps…
Just like being at home, oh the flaccidness…
what am I working on?
Bam! Concept for a new mural or artwork for an upcoming restaurant. My take on the classic chinese painting, “Across the Ming”.

Also elaborating from the last post, the Bill and Toni’s burger day has been postponed till next Wednesday but we’re already hard at work prepping for it (visually). It will be a German themed burger so for the serving boxes Im personally handstyling up on each individual box. I hope you guys appreciate this! 2 down, 48 to go…
_____

Its hard to find time to zone out and do my own stuff with all this uni work/art things going on, but luckily I was able to fit in 2 pieces/sketches
After an average day of cofa Magda and I peeped in Deus gallery for the new typography exhibition. Man was it good, I actually got inspired, enough to whip out this piece while at Eastwood’s very own – Homers (sigh).

While at Eastwood we stubbled upon this fluffy dog. No joke I swear it was the fluffiest thing ive ever seen (more than Tokimonsta or a fluffy bean bag). It looked like a polar bear combined with a sheep.
We went up to touch it to see if it was meaty or just really furry, I am proud to say it was both. It even shook hands and understood its Cantonese master, the Pokemon concept is surely coming true.
