Hamburg

Been working with the Babekuhl boys prepping visuals for the upcoming Burger feast at Bill & Toni’s Surry Hills. Working hard on those hand drawn burger boxes, will take some snaps when there all done tomorrow. For the mean time heres a sweet poster Pat did for this weeks festivities…
A cool dissection of whats in this beast. Everything German except for the Swiss cheese, but hey who can complain, this will sure to be a greasy affair. The burger will also come with a mixtape and some other cool things we designed so make sure you’re there and early, these burgers will move quick.

Just Another Bird

Got a mini notebook to throw down notes for my major project after like 4 years of writing on loose leaf A4s. So I thought i might as well capitalize on this and start sketching random ideas that come to mind. Nothing too complex just to quickly jot down ideas.

Im so Uptown

Last Thursday was the RAH opening/exhibition featuring the book and works of the collective and some of the featured artists. Overall a really swell night with our crew repping the only way we know how (refer to photos). Shout outs to the whole of the RAH collective and Qwux for being an overall top dude and doing a great job. Also shouts to the DJ for playing “Pony” by request following with “Bad Boys 4 life”. I never thought Id hear that song out loud past 2002 let alone in an art gallery, I guess dreams do come true….

Babekuhl Mondaze

Started the day with a greasy suprise. After the boys worked on the redesign of Smith’s Corporate site  we were welcomed with racks on racks of various chips as a gift of fiendish proportions. Straight up there were like 200 packs, which shortly led to the itis. Well I did at least. Anyways here are some crackberry snaps…

Bam! Concept for a new mural or artwork for an upcoming restaurant. My take on the classic chinese painting, “Across the Ming”.

Also elaborating from the last post, the Bill and Toni’s burger day has been postponed till next Wednesday but we’re already hard at work prepping for it (visually). It will be a German themed burger so for the serving boxes Im personally handstyling up on each individual box. I hope you guys appreciate this! 2 down, 48 to go…

Its hard to find time to zone out and do my own stuff with all this uni work/art things going on, but luckily I was able to fit in 2 pieces/sketches
After an average day of cofa Magda and I peeped in Deus gallery for the new typography exhibition. Man was it good, I actually got inspired, enough to whip out this piece while at Eastwood’s very own – Homers (sigh).

While at Eastwood we stubbled upon this fluffy dog. No joke I swear it was the fluffiest thing ive ever seen (more than Tokimonsta or a fluffy bean bag). It looked like a polar bear combined with a sheep.
We went up to touch it to see if it was meaty or just really furry, I am proud to say it was both. It even shook hands and understood its Cantonese master, the Pokemon concept is surely coming true.




An Offer You Can’t Refuse

For Babekuhl ive been working on some sweet murals/menus for the redesign and opening of a new Bill & Toni’s in Balmain. They wanted a real handdrawn feel with iconic characters that truly represent “Italian Culture”. So with Pat’s expertise, you know we had to roll with Pavarotti and Tha Don, Sir Brando haha. Given black skirting around the walls, we had to blend the characters into the bordering black, a step by step process here are the initial ink drawings I did.
Once we figured out a rough layout, The four of us rolled to the location with the lines ready to be projected and directly pencil traced…
The Texture of the wall was initially extremely rough to paint onto, but over time and the discovery of random brushes everything went smoothly.

Its crazy how accurate it turned out in the end to the initial A4 sketch.

Speaking of Bill & Toni’s…. every Wednesday in their Surry Hills location they have a specialty “Burger Night” from 6pm to 9pm I think. They make around 40-50 on the night made completely of specialty ingredients with it always selling out. Here are some fiendish examples from previous weeks…
“The Jap” – Wasabi Mayo. Crunchy Onions. Wagyu pattie. Daikon. Teriyaki sauce. Japanese sweet bun.

“Exhibit A” – Dope Mayo. Crispy Onions. Tri-Cheese Filled Beef. Grilled Pickle.
“EL NACHO LIBRE” Burger bun. Avacardo puree. Iceberg lettuce. Mexican spiced beef. Cheese. Dehydrated jalapeno mayo. Cheese suprene doritos. Cheesey mo f-en sauce. Tomato onion Salsa.

So next week, or maybe the week after, Bill & Toni’s is hooking Babekuhl up with their own signature burger. More info as it comes, but be sure to be there! dont sleep on the greasynesssss

So went on an Eastwood adventure with Timbo to drop off my finished artworks to qwux for the Rah book release on Thursday. Also got a copy of the book and man does it look sweet. A quick preview, check it….

A re-up of the “anatomy” sketch i did before, to be sold and exhibited on the night. In the business of selling, im currently pricing all of the pieces. So on the night be sure to pick up a copy of the book, they’re going for a solid $30, with a hand numbered copy out of a limited 500. Dont Sleep!

 

Smokin’ Cubanos with Castro in Cabanas

My redbull round is over !
Thanks to all the peeps that came through to show support/help drink that fridge of redbull!
Especially the uni people i haven’t seen thanks for coming, a proper catch up when im not “working” is needed! Also big thanks goes to Cam for setting up the event and jamming with me, you killed it man.
So there are two more rounds left, please go check it out next Thursday and support the boys. The next Thursday after is the finals where all the competitors return and the “winner” is chosen, so yeah best be there for that especially, it will be b.i.g!

So when we first got there the canvas was way bigger than we thought. It was roughly 1.5m x 1m with a total of 3 hours to cover it all, also seeing the competition from last week Cam and I had a lot to live up to. The piece had to incorporate the theme of “the rocks” somewhere, open to interpretation with no aerosols allowed. Crazy nervs for like the first 10 minutes, the rest we were on autopilot. For my piece I used ink wash, poscas and acrylic for the background. check it out….
